Movie Night: Annabelle

The other night I finally got around to watching Annabelle. I read about the real Annabelle doll years ago so I was excited when the movie came out. I won’t say much about the plot of the movie, except that it is completely different and fictional compared to the true stories of the doll. Still very entertaining.

I read some articles about paranormal happenings on the set of the movie. I always think it’s really interesting when I read stuff like that. The same thing happened with The Conjuring, which is the sequel to Annabelle (even though it came out prior to Annabelle).

Here’s some links to just a couple of those articles if you’re interested:

What I found most interesting is that the doll is blessed twice a month by a priest. I think I read that before, but I’d forgotten. After I watched the movie the other night, I re-read the story for a refresher.

More Movies…

Ok. So I DID end up watching more movies the other night. When I turned the TV on, I saw the movie Let Me In was on. I remembered kind of wanting to see that movie and I ended up getting “sucked” in (pun intended) on watching it. Now, I did miss about the first 45 minutes to hour of it, but whatever. Let_Me_In_Poster Owen_Abby_2010 Let Me In  Let Me In is about a little girl vampire and a boy that becomes friends with her. Their interactions are actually really cute despite the fact that she’s an evil bloodsucker. There’s a part where the boy tells her about some kids at school that were bullying him. She tells him, “You have to hit them back, with all of your might.” And he said, “What if that doesn’t work?” And she replied, “Then I will help you.” It was sweet in a weird way, you know? joICnp7G download (6) The Babadook The Babadook could also be a psychological thriller, in my opinion. The little boy in the movie thinks there are monsters around, and it doesn’t help when his mom reads him a book called The Babadook. It makes things worse. The boy is really super annoying and there were a few times I screamed inside my head (and maybe out loud, too). But, that just means that he’s quite a good actor, because he’s supposed to make you annoyed with him.

Here’s a still from the movie of him in one of his most annoying fits:images (1)   After reading what other people posted on the IMDB message boards, I realize that there are a bunch of different ways to interpret the film. Sometimes those are the best kinds, though. Oh, and so in the book in the movie, there’s a page that describes how when the Babadook comes, he says, “Baba dook, dook, dook.” Well, when he does inevitably come, and he does say that….the sound of it’s voice is really odd and disconcerting but laughable at the same time. I think I did chuckle when I heard it. Anyways, that’s all I got. I’m not sure what my next pick will be, but I’m sure I’ll post about it.. 😉 Have a great weekend!

I’ve Been Binging On Movies

So, the last two weeks we’ve rented a bunch of movies through Direct TV. More than usual. Our bill will definitely be higher. But, here are the movies that I’ve watched. (I watch the scary ones by myself (eeek!!).

At The Devil’s Door

I wanted to see this movie for a few reasons. I had been searching through the list of available ones to rent and I was looking for a scary one. So there’s that. Then, this movie has Ashley Rickards in it. And she’s in MTV’s show Awkward, which I LOVE (which may or may not be awkward in itself, but who cares…it’s an awesome show!) The movie was okay though. Just okay.

The Midnight Meat Train

This movie was on my ‘to watch’ list for a long time. I read about it in an article about horror movies that are worth watching. And Bradley Cooper and Leslie Bibb are in it, too. So that added to me wanting to see it, even though I thought it was a little weird (and intriguing) that they were in it.

I liked it. It’s about a serial killer on a train. It was quite gory and during some of the parts I was like, “Omg, that looks so fake.” But, only a few parts were like that. Interesting tale that I learned is based on a short story called by the same name in an anthology “Books of Blood” by Clive Barker.

This Is Where I Leave You

What a great cast! I LOVE pretty much anything Jason Bateman is in. I enjoy Tina Fey. And I like the guy from HBO’s show Girls that plays Hannah’s boyfriend. I’m sorry I don’t remember his name. My mom and I almost went to go see this when it was out in the theater but our schedules didn’t jive. The weekend we were wanting to go was a week before it even came out. *sigh* But, regardless, I liked it. It’s a family oriented movie. The dad passes away and the mom forces all of the kids to stay together in one house for seven days. Oh! And I like Rose Byrne a lot, too. She’s cute in this movie. I’m also a fan of Dax Shepard who makes a few appearances in the movie, even though his character is a dick. Funny, but still a dick.

The Captive

I hadn’t heard of this movie, but my husband wanted to watch something and he watched a few different trailers. He showed me a few and we agreed on this one. What happens is the daughter gets taken and the parents have no idea for 8 years what’s happened to her. Then, shit goes down and it all gets figured out. I liked it a lot, I really had no idea what was going to happen. Ryan Reynolds is in it. And the woman from the show The Killing plays his wife. She looks exactly the same in this movie as she does in the show, too. It is a little bit strange. Anyways, there’s a TON of plot holes in this movie, but that kind of stuff doesn’t bother me much most of the time. If you like thrillers, I suggest you have a watch. Oh yeah, Rosario Dawson and Scott Speedman are in it, too. I haven’t really seen too much of Scott Speedman since the Felicity days.

I might be renting another movie tonight depending on how things go. If I do, then I’ll have another one to add!

I read somewhere that “The Babadook” was really good. I’ll be giving that one a go sometime soon, maybe it’ll be later tonight.

(P.S. Sorry my descriptions of movies are not at all good…I don’t really have an excuse for it. Just sayin’ sorry, that’s all.) 😉
