Berry Good Advice!

Berries just never last long enough, do they? It can be pretty frustrating. Well, I just learned about this tip that I plan on trying out in the near future — and thought I’d share it!

When you get home with your berries, wash them with vinegar. Use one part vinegar (white or apple) and ten parts water. Put the berries in and swirl ’em all around and then drain! You can rinse them if you want and them put them in the fridge.

The vinegar kills bacteria and any mold spores. So, your raspberries will last about a week or so (instead of 2 days!) and strawberries last almost 2 weeks!

A Bit Bummed

So, I’m writing this post from my phone — which is something I’ve never done…written posts from my phone. So, as I set out to do that – I went to Google to type in the name of the blog so I could sign in to WordPress and get to posting…and well, not surprisingly, links for the book came up. But, immediately I noticed the link for it on Goodreads and it said there were 2 comments / reviews for the book there. What!? How had I not even known that? I’m on Goodreads all the time!

I clicked to see what they were and they were horrible. I am second-guessing even posting about it because they were so just so mean and I don’t want to bring more attention to it. But, oh well. I am still posting about it. Maybe it will help someone.

Writers always talk about how everyone gets “bad comments” and reviews, etc. It’s true, I knew that. And I am all for expressing your opinion, etc. etc. But, what I don’t like or appreciate is cruelty.

If you didn’t like my book, so what? That’s okay! With everything you have some that like it and some that don’t. But, did you really have to post online that it is “laughable”? No. I don’t think so.

This is what I do if I read a book I am not too fond of. NOTHING.

I go by the “say something nice or don’t say anything at all” rule.

BUT, some people feel compelled to leave reviews. Good or bad. (I do notice that most reviews in general are bad. It’s like people only take the time to say bad things about something, in an effort to vent their own issues and to ward off others. People will take out time to be negative but not to be positive. Which is very sad. Everyone would be happier if more kindness was going around instead of hatred.)

Anyways — before I run too far off on a tangent…if you feel like you have to leave a review, think a little bit about what you’re saying before you type it and hit ‘enter’. There is a real person on the other end reading those harsh words and being hurt by them. If you don’t like something, that’s fine. But, find a way to say it that doesn’t attack the person.

If I felt like I had to write a negative review of a book, I couldn’t imagine being as ruthless as some people are.

At first, I felt bad for myself. I thought, “wow, good thing I didn’t quit my day job,” and “maybe I shouldn’t even be trying to write another book.” But after a little while of self-wallowing I said, “Whoa, whoa, snap out of this! You do not deserve this.” And I don’t.

So, if you’ve ever been in a similar situation, just remember that you don’t deserve that either. Who cares about strangers that have nothing better to do than put you down. Keep your chin up and head high. Like attracts like, and you don’t need to attract that bad kind of like.

I’ve Been Binging On Movies

So, the last two weeks we’ve rented a bunch of movies through Direct TV. More than usual. Our bill will definitely be higher. But, here are the movies that I’ve watched. (I watch the scary ones by myself (eeek!!).

At The Devil’s Door

I wanted to see this movie for a few reasons. I had been searching through the list of available ones to rent and I was looking for a scary one. So there’s that. Then, this movie has Ashley Rickards in it. And she’s in MTV’s show Awkward, which I LOVE (which may or may not be awkward in itself, but who cares…it’s an awesome show!) The movie was okay though. Just okay.

The Midnight Meat Train

This movie was on my ‘to watch’ list for a long time. I read about it in an article about horror movies that are worth watching. And Bradley Cooper and Leslie Bibb are in it, too. So that added to me wanting to see it, even though I thought it was a little weird (and intriguing) that they were in it.

I liked it. It’s about a serial killer on a train. It was quite gory and during some of the parts I was like, “Omg, that looks so fake.” But, only a few parts were like that. Interesting tale that I learned is based on a short story called by the same name in an anthology “Books of Blood” by Clive Barker.

This Is Where I Leave You

What a great cast! I LOVE pretty much anything Jason Bateman is in. I enjoy Tina Fey. And I like the guy from HBO’s show Girls that plays Hannah’s boyfriend. I’m sorry I don’t remember his name. My mom and I almost went to go see this when it was out in the theater but our schedules didn’t jive. The weekend we were wanting to go was a week before it even came out. *sigh* But, regardless, I liked it. It’s a family oriented movie. The dad passes away and the mom forces all of the kids to stay together in one house for seven days. Oh! And I like Rose Byrne a lot, too. She’s cute in this movie. I’m also a fan of Dax Shepard who makes a few appearances in the movie, even though his character is a dick. Funny, but still a dick.

The Captive

I hadn’t heard of this movie, but my husband wanted to watch something and he watched a few different trailers. He showed me a few and we agreed on this one. What happens is the daughter gets taken and the parents have no idea for 8 years what’s happened to her. Then, shit goes down and it all gets figured out. I liked it a lot, I really had no idea what was going to happen. Ryan Reynolds is in it. And the woman from the show The Killing plays his wife. She looks exactly the same in this movie as she does in the show, too. It is a little bit strange. Anyways, there’s a TON of plot holes in this movie, but that kind of stuff doesn’t bother me much most of the time. If you like thrillers, I suggest you have a watch. Oh yeah, Rosario Dawson and Scott Speedman are in it, too. I haven’t really seen too much of Scott Speedman since the Felicity days.

I might be renting another movie tonight depending on how things go. If I do, then I’ll have another one to add!

I read somewhere that “The Babadook” was really good. I’ll be giving that one a go sometime soon, maybe it’ll be later tonight.

(P.S. Sorry my descriptions of movies are not at all good…I don’t really have an excuse for it. Just sayin’ sorry, that’s all.) 😉

Well hello there!!!! Happy New Year!

I know I  haven’t posted in a very long time…and I know that I say that (or if I don’t say it, I’m always thinking it) every time I DO post.

But, here I am again — and my plan HAS been to bring back the spark to this site. That’s been my plan for awhile, but you know how pesky life can be by getting in the way. lol.

And in reigniting this flame, I want to bring other things to the ‘table’ like my pursuits in spirituality. I’m going to talk about all kinds of stuff. When I first started this blog, it was because my book was coming out and I wanted to have a place for people to go and learn about the book and me. But, it’s been years since the book came out and I just don’t have as many things to post about that involves ghosts and the supernatural to be able to post regularly on that topic alone. I mean, I’m sure I could FIND things — and I LOVE finding things — but…it will be much easier and less stressful for me to just post about whatever I feel like. Sometimes it WILL be about the supernatural. But, it will be about a bunch of other stuff, too. Like maybe a recipe I just tried out successfully. Or a book I read. Or a movie I’ve watched. Or things that I’ve been pondering. Or something I learned regarding spirituality.

You probably know that I’m a HUGE music nerd. I live and breathe music. And I have a site totally dedicated to that. That site (along with it’s facebook, etc.) can all be found on the ‘About‘ Page. I probably won’t say too, too much about music on this site just because I already have a million other places I talk about it. 😉

I will also be making changes to the page itself (colors, look, etc.) It’s already changed from what it’s been but I am still not thrilled with it, so when I have time, I’ll be playing around some more with it.

Anyway —— 2015 and beyond!!!!

High fives,

What’s For Dinner?

Since I’ve moved into a new house with an awesome kitchen, I have found I have a love for cooking! I’ve known for a long time that I like entertaining, but it’s even better that I now love cooking, too — since they sort of go hand in hand.

The other night we had a few of our friends over and here’s what I made (click on the images to get the recipes!):

One Year Ago…

…I was ONE month away from getting married. It’s sort of hard to believe now when you think about it.

Sometimes, I think about things that happened 5 years ago and they seem like yesterday. But, my wedding — just 11 months ago…feels like it happened ages ago!

This time last year I was counting down the days and the RSVPs coming in.

I see wedding things on different websites and I see wedding magazines when I’m out shopping and I kind of miss looking at all of that stuff!

Planning sure had it’s stressful moments, but it was SOOOO much fun looking at dresses! And shoes!

Here’s a picture of my dress and my shoes that I wore 11 months ago.
