Fire Destroys Haunted House

Bet you’re a little bit excited right now, aren’t you? “Wow! A haunted house? Really?” That’s what I thought, too.

Nope, not a REAL haunted house anyways.

I’m talking about the former Castle Blood haunted attraction.

From WTAE Pittsburgh:

There was a real scare at a former haunted house in Washington County. Six fire departments were called to battle the flames that broke out around 11 p.m. at the former “Castle Blood” on Main Street in Bentleyville.

The flames were so intense, they caused some dangerous problems for firefighters, including a partial roof collapse.

No injuries were reported, but the building is considered a total loss.

The state fire marshal is still investigating the cause of the fire.

The haunted house closed down in 1997. A year ago, the owners sold the building.

Castle Blood moved to Beallsville and is still open.

  1. I was recently in a fire and it never really occurred to me that fires could be caused by the supernatural, but I guess I can see how that is possible. I feel like with old buildings and houses the materials inside are more flammable and therefore can catch on fire more easily if they come in contact with fuel. I am curious to learn more about the possibility of supernatural fires.

    • Hi – I’m very sorry to hear that you were in a fire. I haven’t researched much about paranormal fires, but you’re right; it is interesting and does trigger curiosity. Do you feel like maybe your fire experience could have maybe been supernatural? Thanks for commenting! 🙂

  2. Thank you for your quick response. The thought came to mind when I started seeing sites like yours. The fire was inconclusive so there is still a lot of mystery. I tried to look into the history behind the building since it was old, but didn’t get much luck. Do you know how i should go about looking for information? I have heard that you can check the land records, but I am not sure how all that works.

  3. Hmm…well there’s a couple different things you could do. If you are still in the area, you could talk to neighbors and ask about the community’s history. You can visit your local or county courthouse to look at the deed registry. The registry is usually found in the clerk and recorder’s office. Through the deed you can also find previous owners and try to contact them if you’d like. Research in local books and newspapers in the library are great sources of info. Also, if there’s a historical society in the area, they can probably help, too. There’s also a website called thatsmyoldhouse.com that’s free and users talk about their old homes. Ya never know, maybe you could even find something there! 🙂

  4. Thank you for the advice. I will check into those resources. I know that the building used to be a brothel house and has been added on to over the years. There is a lot of history there for sure.
